An outlook shown through short stories about food, culture, travel and humor.

Soccer, or as they say, Futball.

I always knew that the Europeans were really big into what the Americans call “Soccer,” However, I didn’t know specifically how hardcore their fans were, especially the Germans. Stop a guy on the street and ask him if he watches futball. There is a 70% chance he will say yes. Then ask him if he would support BVB or Bayern..most likely you will get a strong answer toward one of those teams. Soccer fans here are very protective and loyal toward their teams, just how men are and should be with their girlfriends (haha). Each region of Germany has a team and a huge fan base to go along with it. Some teams are more popular than others and some have a reputation..like the team whose fans tend to get into fights. At a game you’ll see the crowds decked out in the colors of the team with non-stop chanting and yelling. They even have special songs they sing. For the fans who are super loyal, you’ll see them in the special section of the stadium (this will be obvious). They’ll be shaking and holding signs and banners and will be singing pretty much non-stop as someone plays a loud drum to the beat of the song. Also, don’t forget the beer. This is a standard accompaniment to all German men (and women) in general and at games. If you’re seen without one in your hand, someone will either question you or hand you a bottle.
